Vintage Brooks Brothers ties with the black label. They are a favorite around here.

Sport coats on eBay right now…

J. Press tweed size 39R—this this is amazing. 3/2 roll, and the fabric was hand woven in donegal Ireland and is a blend of cashmere, kid mohair and pure new wool

Orvis (gun club check?) tweed sport coat 44R-the pattern is beautiful

Paul Stuart naval sport coat/pea coat size 40S—this thing is beautiful! I wish it was my size! It is made of 100% virgin wool and it is very heavy. It can be used as outerwear in my opinion. It is like a tailored pea coat due to the naval buttons and double breasted construction. It is fully lined like outerwear. I’ve never seen anything like it. Whoever gets this will be very happy.

Another one of my favorite thrift finds ever…..

I rarely find something at a thrift store nowadays that surprises me. I also usually don’t keep many things that I thrift for myself. I usually use my profits from thrifting to buy pieces that I want for myself elsewhere. This find is an exception. I was at the thrift store doing a return the other day and while browsing to find something to exchange for, I look in the jewelry case and I see this baby. At first glance, I’m thinking there is no way that it’s real. I ask the lady to let me see the watch. I examine it. The thing is filthy, but as I examine it, I start to realize that it is real. Now Tag Heuers are one of the most faked watches, so I was still skeptical. It also was a quartz and the battery was dead so it wasn’t working. My second fear would be that it was real, but broken. At a price of $14.99, I decided to bring it home for further examination. The best thing is that I only had to lay out another $3.11 due to my item that I was returning.

I get it home and do some research. I am able to identify that it is a Tag Heuer Kirium approximately from the early 2000’s. These go for anywhere from $300-$400 up to $800-900 on eBay depending on the condition. My luck in watches has amazing lately. I can’t believe it. I brought it to my watch maker and had him open it up for me the next day. He confirmed that it was real. I included a pic of the movement above. It’s not as pretty as an automatic movement since it’s a quartz but it still looks nice to me. He threw a battery in it and low and behold, it works fine. I was ecstatic! I took it home and proceeded to clean it up. This watch was filthy. It was disgusting. I should’ve taken a picture of all of the crap I scraped out of this watch. I have never seen a watch with as much grime and dirt between the links as this one. I literally had to pick big nasty pieces of dirt out from between each and every link. Then I washed it down with a toothbrush and soap and warm water. It took me 1.5 hours to get this watch cleaned up but it was well worth it. It is good as new now. It is a perfect beater watch because it is dependable, rugged and still has a nice presence on the wrist in my opinion. I will probably keep this for myself for a while, but I will probably eventually sell it to fund a future watch purchase. For now, I’m enjoying it.

A couple of weeks later, I am still loving these watches! I have changed the straps a couple of times so this is how they look for the moment.

Also, shoutout to Frenchy for the Omega caps! You are the man! They go nicely with the watches. These will definitely see a ton of weekend wear!

New watch alert: Rolex Submariner date 16610 F series serial

I have always wanted a Rolex Submariner. In my opinion, it is the all around perfect watch. It’s dressy enough to be worn with a sport coat and a tie, yet rugged enough to wear on the weekend with chinos and a rugby. It is classic, timeless and has looked the same since the 50’s. It isn’t going anywhere. If I was told that I had to choose one watch to wear for the rest of time, this would be the watch that I would choose. Some people are into the vintage Submariners, and I like those too but for my first Submariner I wanted something newer. I have been researching Submariners for years and I decided that the 16610 was the Submariner for me—it has the “no holes” case and the solid end links. I have been waiting for the right one to come along for months. When I came across this one that was in mint condition with all boxes, papers, polishing cloth AND the anchor, I had to pull the trigger. I am so glad that I did. I plan on keeping this watch forever. This is a watch that I plan on handing down to my future son one day.

My best thrift store finds ever!! Before and after pics above..Read the full story below..

Those of you that have been following this blog for a while know that I am also a watch collector and I am very passionate about watches. Most you also know that I run an eBay store as a side business, so I go thrifting at least 4-5 times a week. I have been looking to purchase a Vintage Omega for a while now. I am partial to piepan constellations and have been very close to purchasing one a few times. I was giving myself a budget of $1000 max to spend on it. Well, on thursday night, I stopped into one of my regular thrift spots and after browsing the store for about 20 mins and finding nothing, I decided to leave. On the way out I did my customary check of the jewelry cases which usually never yields anything good but to my surprise, I saw two beautiful vintage Omegas!! The way they were positioned I couldn’t see the price and I was a little nervous because this particular thrift store will sometimes jack the prices way up if they know they have something good. This store had a fake Cartier priced at $1599 one time. Anyways, I had someone come and open the case for me and to my absolute delight, the gold seamaster below was priced at $14.99 and the other was priced at $9.99. Now I was wondering if they were running. I shook the silver one and it immediately starting running. Score!! I wound the gold seamaster and that also started running. Score again!!! My heart was racing. I had the employee ring me up and I got out of there as fast as I could!! I was also very nervous that they weren’t real, but I figured for that price, they were worth the risk. They also had some hideous busted up bands on them which made the watches look bad, but I saw the potential.

I get them home and I discover that the vintage Seamaster was made in the 50’s, 14K gold filled with a beautiful chocolate dial and also features the highly sought after “bumper movement”. These go for close to $1000 or more on eBay under the right circumstances! The silver watch is a vintage Omega Geneve and was made in the 70’s. That watch could probably fetch $300-$500 on eBay if I sold it. I also discovered that they both have the original crystals on them because I was able to find the small omega logo that was etched in.

As as far as the condition, they both seem to be in great shape to me. The crystal on the silver watch is pretty scratched and the crystal on the gold watch is scratched but not as badly. Honestly, I love the way they both look and I really don’t think I’m going to do much as far as polishing them or replacing the crystals etc…These are vintage watches and I want them to look as such. After a trip to my watchmaker to get them cleaned and put some new bands on, I love the results! I have a NATO strap coming for the silver one. The best part is that they are both keeping great time! When the time comes I will service them as needed. These are staying in the collection!!
